Cushion Styles

Look carefully at the cushions you are planning to replace. How many cushions are there? Are they connected together and what kind of Hinge connects them? This section is designed to help you order the correct kind of cushion for your RV.

Cushion Styles

There are two styles of cushion that are most often used in the RV industry.

California Waterfall (CWF) has roll over edges with the seam at the bottom of the edge. White vinyl is on the bottom of the cushion with fabric on both the top and sides.

Waterfall (WF) style is reversible. The same fabric is on the top and bottom of the cushion and the seam is in the center of the cushion edge.

Single Cushions

Single cushions are sized first by the depth of the cushion, then the width, and finally the length. ie 5 x 24 x 48. In all cases the zipper is placed on the length.

Multiple Fold Cushions

Multiple fold cushions are two or more cushions that are joined together by a hinge. A Bifold (two cushions) is usually written as depth x (width1 + width2) x length. ie 5 x (24 + 18) x 76. A Trifold (three cushions) is usually written as depth x (width1 + width2 + width3) x length. ie 5 x (24 + 11 + 11) x 76.

Hinge Types for Multiple Fold Cushions

There are three types of hinges used to join multifold cushions together.

Note: It is not a wise idea to change the type of hinge involved. Cushions are designed to fit into your RV. Changing the hinge type will change the overall size of the folded cushions and they won't fit!

Tight Hinge (T' Hinge) joins the cushions together above the zippers without using any extra fabric.

Loose Hinge (L' Hinge) joins the cushions above the zippers using extra fabric. The L' Hinge is usually 1-3" and can run the full length of the cushion or can be broken into several lengths to allow for seatbelts.

Kant Fall Hinge (K' Hinge) joins together the cushions below the zippers by using extra fabric. The purpose of this hinge is so that the back cushion will not fall forward. Hence the name "Kant Fall". Normally they are 1" wider than the thickness of the cushion.

Dinettes usually have two hinges approximately 6" long while couches usually have three hinges. Sometimes the hinge will run the full length of the cushion.
